PARSONS ENGINEERING SCIENCE, INC. -
290 Elwood Davis Road, Suite 312•Liverpool,New York 13088•(315)451-9560•Fax(315)451-9570•
May 6, 1997
Mr. James Brathoude
Regional Water Quality Control Board
3343 Routier
Suite A
Sacramento, California 95827-3098
Re: Greyhound Lines, Inc. Terminal
Location #8969
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Brathoude:
Please find enclosed: (1) analytical results from two groundwater samples recently
collected at the Greyhound Lines, Inc. Stockton, California terminal (Attachment A), and (2)
estimates of the mass of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX), and total diesel
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-D) remaining in onsite soil (Attachment B). These items are
intended to complete the site closure package submitted in December 1996, as discussed during
our December 1996 conversation.
The groundwater samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3 on
March 6, 1997 in order to assess the previously submitted results from groundwater samples
collected on December 11, 1996. The March 1997 samples were analyzed for TPH-D
(Modified EPA Method 8015) and BTEX (EPA Method 8020). The results were consistent
with results from most of the samples collected prior to December 11, 1996; BTEX and TPH-
D were not detected in either sample.
The estimates of the mass of BTEX and TPH-D remaining in onsite soil are based on the
results from soil samples collected onsite. These results are summarized in the December
1996 Request for Closure Report. Assuming a volume of 11,000 cubic yards of contaminated
soil remain onsite (page 9, Request for Closure Report) and a conservative soil porosity value
(30 percent), we estimate the remaining mass of BTEX is 0.1 kg and the remaining mass of
TPH-D is approximately 128 kg.
If you have questions or require any additional information, please call us at
(315) 451-9560.
Sincerely,
PARSONS ENGINEERING SCIENCE, INC.
Christopher R.
