Box 2009
Stockton , CA 95201 ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Re : Marley Cooling Tower Company
Dear Dr. Khanna:
Our law firm represents former employees of the Marley
Company and residents who lived near their lumber treating
plant . We are concerned that although the State has made
progress with site cleanup, little has been done to
concisely assess the facility ' s impact on the health of
people .
As you are probably aware , state-ordered tests have
discovered significant contamination (at a few sites ) in the
ditches which run along the residential streets adjoining
the south yard of the Marley facility.
It appears to us that a high percentage of people in
this neighborhood have unexplained allergies , rashes,
irritations and headaches . It has not escaped our attention
that this situation may be attributed to chromium exposure,
especially since chromium salts are very allergenic .
We recently met with Dr. Lynn Goldman, DOHS
Epidemiology Section , Berkeley, concerning possible
state-sponsored studies of employees and Franklin High
School graduates . I have enclosed for your reference a copy
of a letter from this office to Ms . Marge Rouch, DOHS, Toxic
Substances Control Division , Sacramento, which outlines our
more serious concerns .
-Me
OCfi
. 1900
SAN .10AQUIN LOCAL'
MTH DISTRICT,
Hawaii Office:Sterns&Ingram,Grosvenor Center,Honolulu 96813 (808) 5
