(GTI), to describe results obtained during the drilling and sampling
of five investigative soil borings on May 12-13, 1994.
Five soil borings were drilled to define the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination
remaining in soil beneath the'site. Petroleum hydrocarbons present as TPHGas and BTEX were
detected in borings SB-1, SB-3, and SB-4. The highest levels of contamination were found at
forty feet below ground surface and deeper; most-notably in boring SB-4 beneath the former fuel
tankpit. No petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in borings SB-2 and SB-5. Based on these
latest results it appears that most of the hydrocarbons remaining in soil are limited to the area
beneath the eastern-southeastern portion of the former fuel tankpit.
The next phase of work will be directed at further defining soil contamination to the south of the
former fuel tankpit and to further define the extent of groundwater contamination south of the
subject site across Washington Street. A workplan will be submitted for approval on or before
October 15, 1994.
If.you have any questions or comments, I can be reached at(510) 842-8695.
Sincerely,
Brett L.
