Note: composite samples should
consist of a minimum of three discrete samples collected at
differing locations between the toe of the berm (pond bottom)
and the top of the berm excavation (high water level) .
Two composite samples representing the eastern portion of the
pond bottom: one for the southeast quadrant and the other
for the northeast quadrant. The two composite samples should,
at a minimum, consist of three discrete samples collected at
different locations in the respective quadrant.
The North Area trench must also be sampled. One composite
sample consisting of a minimum of three discrete samples
collected at different locations within the trench area shall
be collected and submitted for analysis.
Upon completion of the Phase 2 , excavation activity in the
western portion of the pond, confirmation sampling of the
berms and pond bottom as described above shall be completed.
Sampling locations will be the north, south and west berms,
and the pond bottom. The pond bottom samples will be collect-
ed from the northwest and southwest quadrants.
Note: Adequate portions of the discrete samples used to
formulate the composite samples shall be retained until re-
view of the laboratory report has been completed by the re-
gulatory agencies. "
MCTC response:
These sampling procedures will be incorporated into the
closure construction contract documents.
We look forward to working with the agencies in completing the
closure of the impoundment. If you have any questions or comments
regarding these responses or the planned closure activities, please
contact me at ( 913 ) 362-1818 .
Sincerely,
E MARLEY COOLING TOWER CO.
David W.
