Four shallow groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-14, MW-15, MW-16, and MW--17) and one deep groundwater monitoring well
(MW-15D) will be advanced to 34 and 60 below ground surface (bgs), respectively,
using 8-inch and 11-inch hollow-stem augers, and soil samples will be collected at 5-foot
intervals for logging purposes, from ground surface to the total completion depth.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg), total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), total petroleum hydrocarbons
as motor oil (TPHmo), benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, total xylenes (BTEX), methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl
tertiary butyl ether(ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA), and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB).
EHD approves the work plan as submitted for replacement of monitoring wells destroyed
during the removal of the former station facilities, however, the work plan does not
address the criteria to be used for determining the screen intervals. Please submit the
objectives and rational for selecting the screen intervals. EHD recommends continuous
coring in the general target intervals to better characterize the sand occurrences and to
ensure that the monitoring objectives are met. Please address these issues at your
' earliest convenience.
Further investigation of contamination in groundwater will be necessary to assess the
vertical extent of impacted groundwater at this site. f'-please submit a work plan tb
' address vertical extent of contamination at this site by 5 January 2004.
