"COR :
sAEJ
International Incorporated
March 21, 2001
Project 077.41991.007
Mr. Ron Rowe
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Re: Site Assessment
Chevron Service Station 9-0557
139 South Center Street
Stockton, California
Site Code: 1039
Dear Mr. Rowe:
This letter, prepared by SECOR International Incorporated (SECOR) on behalf of
Chevron Products Company (Chevron), presents the results of site assessment activities
performed September 5th through 9th, 2000. The purpose of this work was to further
characterize the hydrogeology in the site area and evaluate the lateral and vertical extent
of hydrocarbons in groundwater onsite and offsite. The data gathered from this phase of
work will be utilized in locating future groundwater monitoring wells offsite and for
determining the depth of those wells.
SITE BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
The site is an operating Chevron Service Station located on the northwest corner of
Washington Street and South Center Street in Stockton, California, and is within an area
of primarily commercial use (Figures 1 and 2). Topography in the area of the site is
relatively flat, and is approximately 12 feet above mean sea level. The nearest surface
water bodies are the Mormon Slough located approximately 114-mile south of the site,
the Yacht Harbor located approximately 114-mile north of the site, and the Port of
Stockton located approximately one mile west of the site. The Highway 4 overpass is
located south of the site across Washington Street.
As previously reported by Groundwater Technology, Inc. (GTI), the site has been
operated as a retail gasoline station since 1969. In April 1990, the existing single-
walled steel underground storage tanks (USTs) and associated piping were removed
3017 Kilgore Road, Suite 100, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 916.861.0400 916.861.0430 Fax www.secor.com
