ATTACHMENT B
FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES
Health And Safety
Prior to performing field work at the site, SECOR prepared a Site-Specific Health and
Safety Plan required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)
Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR
1910.120) and by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR
Title 8, Section 5192). The Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan was reviewed by the
project manager, field staff and contractors before beginning field operations at the site
each day.
Exploratory Drilling and Soil and Groundwater Sampling
The soil borings were advanced using a direct push cone penetrometer testing (CPT) rig.
Borings were logged by CPT. Soil samples for chemical analysis were retained in plastic
liners, capped with Teflon squares and plastic end caps, and sealed in zip-lock bags.
Discrete groundwater samples were collected at selected intervals (based on CPT boring
logs) using a hydro-punch. The samples were placed on ice for transport to the labora-
tory accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation. Down-hole boring and sampling
equipment was steam-cleaned prior to and following the completion of each soil boring.
Down-hole sampling equipment was washed in a tri-sodium phosphate or alconox
solution between samples.
Laboratory Procedures
Selected soil and groundwater samples collected were analyzed for the presence of
TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and MtBE by EPA Method 8260B. HP-
2 through HP-4 were also analyzed for the full 8260 suite including the fuel oxygenates
MtBE, DIPE, TAME, EtBE, TBA, 1,2 DCA, EDB, methanol, and ethanol.
