' KLEINFELDER
' 4.3. MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT
Following a minimum of 48 hours after installation, the monitoring wells were developed to
remove silt and clay from the well bore and to effectively increase the hydraulic radius of each
' monitoring well. Surging along the screened interval of the well will be performed to set the sand
pack during installation and again during the development stage. The monitoring wells were
developed as described in Appendix E Section E.3.2. The discharge was periodically monitored
' for pH, temperature, and specific conductance.
The monitoring wells were developed beginning on April 30, 2004. For a copy of the Monitoring
Well Development Logs refer to Appendix C. The well development purge water was discharged
to the land surface in such a manner as not to allow the discharge to enter any surface water body
or flow back into the monitoring wells.
' 4.4. MONITORING WELL SAMPLING
Groundwater was sampled on May 3, 2004, after the monitoring wells were developed . Water
' level measurements were made in the monitoring wells prior to purging and sampling the wells
according to the protocol described in Appendix G Section G-4.1. The following table outlines the
groundwater elevations in each monitoring well during sampling on May 3,2004.
Text Table 4
' Groundwater Elevations
ELocation TOC Elevation Depth to GW GW Elevation.
msl(feet) BTOC. feet msl feet
-1 11.79 24.01 -12.22
-2 12.16 23.81 -11.65
-3 11.29 22.72 11.43
' TOC=Top of Well Casing GW=Groundwater
BTOC=Below Top of Casing msl=mean sea level
' Approximately three to five well volumes were purged by bailing. The groundwater samples were
collected as described in Appendix G Section G-4.2. Each of the water samples collected for
quantitative analyses were submitted under chain-of-custody control to a laboratory certified by
' the State of California Department of Health Services (DHS) for the requested analyses.
Equipment used for groundwater sampling was decontaminated prior to use at each sampling
' location by cleaning with a non-phosphate detergent wash followed by a distilled water rinse, or
disposable sampling equipment was used.
42162.1301 /ST04R854 Page 11 of 22
Copyright 2004,Kleinfelder,Inc.
