We have reviewed the following project documents <br /> submitted by PG&E: <br /> o The Stockton Former Manufactured Gas Plant Site <br /> Characterization Workplan - September, 1987 ; <br /> o Preliminary Assessment of the Former Manufactured Gas Plan <br /> Site in the City of Stockton - December, 1987 ; <br /> O Site Characterization Report, Volume 1 - April, 1988 ; <br /> O Site Characterization Report, Volume 2 - April, 1988 <br /> The following comments regarding the preliminary RI should be <br /> considered before completing the remainder of the required RI <br /> phase for this site. <br /> Surface/Subsurface Soil Investigation <br /> A magnetometer survey was performed onsite. In addition, PG&E <br /> should perform other subsurface surveys, such as ground <br /> penetrating radar and seismic refraction surveys, to identify all <br /> buried structures or obstructions in the areas under <br /> investigation. An inventory of all currently buried structures <br /> is needed to supplement the historical records. <br /> Numerous soil borings were performed onsite, although no <br /> indication was given if the cores recovered were retained or <br />
