Response to Comments on final Phase III Technical Memorandum
' PG&E Stockton Former Manufactured Gas Plant Site
May 4, 1995
Page 3
' 5. Section 3.3, Analytical Results
' There were only three samples for which QA/QC parameters, surrogate recoveries, were
not within control limits. The case narratives for these samples do not indicate that the
results for these parameters are invalid.
1
' 6. Section 3.3.1, Soil Analytical Results
There is a typographical error at the top of Page 36, Section 3.3.1. It should read: "Table
3-9 presents VOC results for soils from borings MW-17 and MW-18, and TPH-diesel and
' TPH-gas analytical results for soil samples collected from MW-19.".
' Soil contamination will be evaluated in further detail during the supplemental soil
investigation which will take place during the summer of 1995. This soil investigation
' will be conducted to evaluate the soil source areas for the purposes of evaluating a
feasible remedial alternative for soil.
7. Section 3.3.2, Hydropunch Sampling Results
' Hydropunch samples were not collected in A Zone wells MW-1R and MW-18 because
groundwater samples were going to be collected from these wells after installation. A
Zone A hydropunch sample was not collected from the MW-19 borehole because MW-9,
' an A Zone well, exists close to the MW-19 location and groundwater samples were
collected from that A zone well.
As stated before, we plan to evaluate potential offsite sources, such as the Stockton Fire
Department site and the Morton Paint Company site to see if we need to install additional
' upgradient wells.
S. Section 3.3.3, Groundwater Analytical Results
Offsite sources are being evaluated as stated in the response to Comment#1 (RWQCB)
' and groundwater levels will be evaluated with respect to the gradient direction in Zones
A, B, and C. TPH-diesel and TPH-gas were sampled for one time only in March 1995 in
all of the wells as discussed in PG&E's meeting with DTSC and RWQCB on February
' 28, 1995. BTEX was sampled for in all of the wells in March 1995 and will be included
in subsequent quarterly events.
