This report is being submitted under the above referenced order.
This groundwater investigation report describes field activities and groundwater
monitoring results associated with the installation of six new groundwater monitoring
wells (two in Zone A, two in Zone B and two in Zone Q. These wells were installed in
accordance with the"Final Workplan, Phase IV Groundwater Investigation, PG&E
Former Manufactured Gas Plant Site, 535 Center Street, Stockton, California", submitted
to DTSC on February 6, 1996. The purpose of the Phase IV groundwater investigation
was to evaluate the extent of polynuclear aromatic compounds (PNAs) and benzene in
Zones A and C and to confirm the extent of PNAs and benzene in Zone B.
Based upon the groundwater monitoring results for the new wells, PG&E believes it has
demonstrated that the extent of PNAs in Zones A and C is limited to Area I and that the
extent of benzene in Zones A, B and C is limited to Area I. Although the extent of PNAs
in Zone B has been confirmed beneath Area I, PNAs were also found in Zone B wells
located in Area II.
As set forth in the latest schedule submitted to DTSC on June 6, 1996, PG&E would like
to schedule a meeting or a conference call for June 24, 1996 to discuss and agree upon the
results of the Phase IV groundwater investigation. I will call to confirm whether this date
is convenient for a meeting or a conference call.
