,I
11 January 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0769
Electricity is readily available to the site. A dedicated electrical meter will be installed by
representatives of PG & E that will connect directly to the pump and treat system.
3 .2 . 1 . Discharge Piping System
A 2-inch diameter, schedule 80 polyvinylchloride (PVC) pipe will be installed aboveground to a
sewer connection on the property or a dedicated sewer connection will established, if required. A
sampling port will be installed to collect effluent samples to monitor the treated water discharged
from the site. AGE anticipates a continuous discharge of pre-treated ground water from the site to
the sewer drain at a flow rate of approximately 10 gallons per minute. A lower explosive meter and
flow/totalizer meter will be installed on the effluent discharge line as required by the COS .
3 .2.2, Ground Water Extraction Monitoring Activities
The pump and treat system will be routinely monitored weekly to ensure optimal removal of
dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons. The ground water influent and effluent flow rate readings will
be recorded before and after the GAC phase. Grab water samples will be collected on a bi-weekly
basis from the influent and effluent streams of the treatment system. The samples will be collected
and transported to a DHS-certified laboratory in a chilled container under ice under chain-of-custody.
During the "start-up" period for the ground water extraction system, operational parameters and
ground water samples will be collected on a daily basis. The anticipated start-up period will be
approximately two weeks.
Samples will be obtained and analyzed from the holding tank prior to initiating discharge to the
sewer to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment system. If the analytical results do not indicate
the detection of hydrocarbon compounds, AGE will inform the COS of the continuous discharge
directly from the treatment system into the sewer drain.
3 .3 . EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being
i
washed with a solution ofAlconox. Prior to each use all down-hole drilling and sampling equipment
will be pressure washed prior to starting each boring.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
