ATC Associates Inc. <br /> Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan <br /> Revised March 1998 <br /> i <br /> i <br /> inches of soil will be removed from the immediat surface area where the sample is to be taken <br /> and the cylinder will then be pounded into the soil with a wooden mallet, bulk density driver, or <br /> other decontaminated driving device. No head pace will be present in the cylinder once the <br /> sample is collected. Care will be taken to avoid ontamination of both the inside and outside of <br /> the cylinder as well as its contents. During sampling, latex gloves will be worn to prevent <br /> cross-contamination with other samples. One pair of disposable gloves will be dedicated to <br /> each sample collected. <br /> Once the sample is collected, 'each end of the cylinder will be sealed with aluminum foil or <br /> teflon tape and then capped with a polyethylene lid, taped, and labeled. The sample will then <br /> be individually sealed in a ziplock bag and immediately placed in an ice chest containing dry ice <br /> or frozen chemical ice for delivery to a state cert'ied laboratory. Sample identification, storage <br /> and transportation will be conducted as outlined the previous section. <br /> 11.3 Sampling from Soil Piles or Shallow Soil Pits <br /> Soil samples will be collected and transported from excavated material in the manner described <br /> in the previous section, however, a backhoe Mll not be utilized. If composite samples are <br /> collected, four brass cylinders will be collected for every 50 cubic yards of material to be <br /> sampled unless otherwise specified by the lead regulatory agency. The samples will be <br /> composited by the state certified laboratory personnel prior to testing. <br /> 12.0 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROTOCOL <br /> Prior to arriving at the sampling site, all sampling equipment will be washed with nonphosphate <br /> detergent (Alconox or equivalent), and rinsed twice witil tap water, once with acetone, and once with <br /> W:1AdminlShelislQAQC-98.D0C <br />
