F
ASS O C I ATE S I N C .
Table 1. Soil sample locations, as presented in HeIrr,ick and Lerner's work plan, are shown on
Figure 3.
F2.0 METHODS AND PROCEDURES
To evaluate the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil a total of
two soil borings were
advanced at the site. These soil borings were placed at the north end and central area the former
F diesel UST. All field activities were performed in ac ordance with Helmick and Lerner's Work
F,
Plan for Soil Investigation, Edison High - Stockton Unified School District, dated February 6,
1998 and ATC's Site Safety Plan and Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan (QA/QC Plan)
F, submitted to PHS/EHD on February 1, 1999.
I
2_1 Soil Boring Advancement and Sam lin
FI: '
On February 16, 1999, ATC supervised the advancement of two soil borings (SBI and SB2) in
{ the vicinity of the former diesel UST. Drilling wasperformed by employing a Geoprobe®
= method of direct push technology (DPT).
F7 Soil Borings SB 1 and SB2 were advanced to depths Df 31 and 30 feet bgs, respectively. Both
soil borings were advanced at an approximate angle of 30 degrees from vertical to obtain soil
samples beneath the existing concrete cradle on whichthe site's former 10,00-gallon diesel tank
Fonce rested. Soil samples were collected from the two borings at a minimum of four-foot
intervals in acetate sampling tubes and were described according to the Unified Soil j
Classification System. The soil samples and drill cuttings were characterized for soil type,
F! moisture content, and visual evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons.
A flame ionization detection meter (FID) was used as a field-screening device for the detection
F of petroleum hydrocarbon vapors in cored samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered and
sample collection intervals are included on the boring logs contained in Appendix A.
FFollowing soil sample collection, the borings SBI and SB2 were backfilled with neat cement
grout to the ground surface.
2.2 Soil Samplg.Analysis
PSelected soil samples were placed on ice, and transported under chain-of-custody to Sequoia
Analytical (ELAP #1210) of Redwood City, California for analysis. The soil samples were
analyzed for TPHd by EPA Method 8015 and BTFX by EPA Method 8020. The analytical
Fjresults for soil samples are summarized in Table 1. L iboratory data sheets with chromatograms
and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Appendix B.
F!
w:1172921reportslsumwel.doc 2
