II
2 MARCH 2002 SITE INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES
The March 2002 site investigation included driving six Geoprobe probeholes, and
completing one groundwater monitoring well, one air sparging well and one soil
vapor extraction well Soil and groundwater samples were collected for laboratory
analysis Prior to performing drilling activities, PSC obtained applicable County and
City of Stockton permits as required Permits are contained in Appendix A
21 Geoprobe Borings
PSC utilized Advanced Geoenvironmental Inc (AGE) of Stockton to drive
three soil probeholes(PH-3 through PH-5) at the Site to assess the extent of
petroleum-impacted soil in the vicinity of the former UST AGE also drove
three additional offsite Geoprobe "hydropunch" probeholes (PH-6 through
PH-8), in downgradient locations relative to the former UST, to further assess
the extent of petroleum-impacted groundwater
Probehole PH-5, located south of the former UST, was the initial boring f
driven on March 14, 2002 Probehole PH-5 was driven to a total depth of 49
feet Four-foot long continuous cores, obtained in acetate liners, were
collected from 5 feet to the final depth to evaluate subsurface stratigraphy
Subsurface stratigraphic conditions are more fully described in Section 3 2 of
this report
Portions of each PH-5 core (the most obviously impacted if evident) were
selected, placed in a zip-lock bag, and subsequently screened for organic
vapors with a photoionization detector (PID) Geologic Field Observation logs
and PID measurements are contained in Appendix A
Probeholes PH-3 (north of the UST) and PH-4 (west of the UST) were
sampled less continuously than PH-5 Generally, two-foot long soil cores were
initially obtained at a depth of 24 to 26 feet, and then subsequently about
every five feet from 34 feet to Te termination depth PH-3 was driven to 55
feet and PH-4 was driven to 50 feet Soil sample cores were also screened
with the PID
y Soil samples for laboratory chemical analysis were collected from probeholes
PH-3 through PH-5 at various depths Samples were collected in clean brass
tubes, which were capped, labeled, and stored in an iced chest for chain-of-
custody delivery to Acculabs analytical laboratory in Davis, California Soil
samples were analyzed for BTEX, TPHg and oxygenate compounds Soil
sample analytical results are discussed in Section 3 2
7
March 2002
Subsurface Site Investigation
1717 South Center Street-Stockton,California
Prepared by Philip Services Corp
H VFNV\624001325121382EGkProjects\StockCentlmarch2002inymigauon ci c May 14 2002
