Page 4
Mr Michael Infurna Jr,Senior REHS
August 21,2000
' samples collected from these wells by GZA in July 1999 did not contain
detectable concentrations of TPHg or BTEX compounds However, TPHg and
BTEX compounds were detected m samples collected on June 29, 2000 from
' MW-1 and MW-3 TPHg was measured in MW-1 and MW-3 groundwater
samples at 1,300 ug/1 and 1,600 ug/l, respectively Benzene was measured in
MW-1 and MW-3 groundwater samples at 150 ug/l and 170 ug/l,respectively
Three oxygenate compounds were also measured during this recent monitoring
event The groundwater sample collected from well MW-2 contained TBA,
MTBE, and DIPE at concentrations of 110 ug/l, 9 2 ug/l, and 8 4 ug/l,
respectively Oxygenate compounds were not detected in the samples collected
' from wells MW-1 and MW-3 Oxygenate compounds were not detected during
the preliminary subsurface investigation performed by Philip on April 16, 1998
' Conclusions
Based on current monitoring data, groundwater was measured in the monitoring
wells at a depth of about 23 feet below the ground surface Groundwater was
evaluated to flow southeasterly at an approximate gradient of 175 x 10"3 feet per
foot
1
Current groundwater monitoring results indicate that relatively high
concentrations of TPHg and BTEX compounds were detected in the MW-2
groundwater sample The extent of this impact can not delineated at this time
TPHg and BTEX compounds were also detected in the most recent samples
collected from MW-1 and MW-3 Petroleum hydrocarbons had not been detected
in the initial set of samples that were collected from these wells in July 1999
' IPE were TBA, MTBE, and D e detected in the most recent sample collected from _
' well MW-2 Previous samples collected near this location did not contain
oxygenate compounds
It is unclear whether the petroleum hydrocarbons detected in MW-1 and MW-3
samples, and the oxygenates detected in the MW-2 sample are anomalous Philip
will continue to monitor conditions at this site to assess subsurface conditions
The next scheduled monitoring event is planned for September 2000
1
