Page 4 <br /> Mr Michael Infurna Jr <br /> June 2, 1998 <br />' in-place when it was evident that there was no pressure drop Photographs from the <br /> piping abandonment are contained in Attachment 2 <br /> Preliminary Subsurface Site Investigation <br /> On April 16, 1998, two 1-inch diameter Geoprobe-type probeholes (PH-1 and <br /> PH-2) were driven by Advanced GeoEnvironmental beneath the former UST to collect <br /> soil and groundwater samples Probehole PH-1 was situated about 10 feet north of <br /> probehole PH-2 (see Figure 3) A San Joaquin County well permit and a City of <br /> Stockton encroachment permit were previously obtained to perform this work <br /> Following the completion of each probehole, they were properly abandoned by filling <br /> them with a cement/bentomte mix grout <br /> A continuous eighteen-inch long soil sample was collected in three separate 6-inch long <br /> brass tubes at each sample interval Soil samples were collected from probehole PH-1 at <br /> 5-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 10 feet to the final depth of 50 feet Soil <br /> samples were collected from probehole PH-2 at 10-foot intervals beginning at a depth <br /> of 10 feet to its final depth of 50 feet <br /> Upon retrieval, one brass tube was capped, labeled, and stored in an ice chest for later <br /> delivery to an analytical laboratory Soil from the second brass tube was placed in a zip- <br /> lock baggy for subsequent organic vapor measurement with a photoionization detector <br /> (PID) Soil from the third tube was observed for physical characteristics and odor, <br /> which were recorded with its PID measurement on the Geologic Field Observations log <br /> (contained in Attachment 3) <br />' Groundwater, encountered at eachp robehole at a depth of 50 feet, was sampled through <br /> the Geoprobe rod string using clean plastic tubing equipped with a check valve <br />' Samples were placed in glass VOA containers, labeled, and stored in the ice chest <br /> Subsurface Observations <br /> Subsurface lithologies and associated depths were approximately equivalent at each <br /> probehole location Approximately 8 feet of UST excavation pea gravel fill was initially <br /> encountered This fill was underlain by a brown clayey silt to a depth of about 25 feet <br /> A stiff, moderately plastic, brown grading to gray, dry to moist silty clay was situated to <br /> a depth of 50 feet A confined sandy groundwater interval was encountered at 50 feet, <br />
