r
4 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Groundwater-monitoring has been conducted at this facility since 1999 to evaluate
groundwater quality A summary of the current site conditions and a
' recommendation for subsequent work are as follows
• During this event, the average depth to groundwater In the wells was 26 76
feet bgs (-16 99 feet msl) The groundwater flow was generally easterly at a
gradient of approximately 0 005 foot per linear foot
• Low levels of xylenes were detected In the sample collected from well MW-2
in July 2005 Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, TPH-G, and oxygenates were
not detected in well MW-2 in July 2005
• Xylenes concentrations decreased in well MW-2 since the previous
monitoring event
• The current BTEX concentrations were compared to the California Drinking
Water MCLS Based on the current groundwater-monitoring data, none of the
MCLs were exceeded in any of the samples
• BTEX, TPH-G, and oxygenates were not detected in any of the remaining
samples
® The SVE system was placed back into operation on May 20, 2005 The
1 system malfunctioned just prior to the June 14, 2005 event The system was
repaired on June 23, 2005 The system was operating, but the sparging flow
meter was damaged upon the weekly site visit on July 25, 2005 (last weekly
' event for this quarterly period) The system was repaired on August 11, 2005
• The current total mass of TPH-G removed from the soil is estimated at 178
pounds, which is approximately 52% of the Initial estimated amount released
The overall mean influent TPH-G rate was 4 04 lbs/day, while the average
emission rate after treatment was 0 26 lbs/day Therefore, the TPH-G removal
efficiency was approximately 93 6%
Based on the results of the July 2005 sampling event, It appears that further
groundwater remediation Is warranted at the facility PSC recommends that the
current quarterly groundwater-monitoring plan and the air sparging/soll venting
continue as is
•
11
Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
July 2005
Prepared for SARA LEE BAKERY GROUP,INC Prepared by Philip Services Corporation
Investigatrvc and Quarterly Report\3rd Quanerly Report 07_2005(fml) September 23,2005
