3 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM MONITORING
On behalf of PSC, Meinfelder performed weekly air monitoring on the SVE system
during this past quarter This report summarizes the data generated during this
' period The data are presented in the following sections Summary tables for
Contammant Removal Results and Air Emission Results are included in Tables 5 and
6 The most current field data sheet is included in Appendix C The most current
' laboratory analytical report is included in Appendix D
3.1 Air Monitoring Procedures
During system operation, airflow rates are measured weekly in sparging well
' SP-1 and in venting wells VW-1 and MW-2 Flow rates are adjusted as
necessary Volatile organic compound (VOC) vapors are measured from the
sample ports of the influent stream, the first carbon vessel effluent stream, and
' the second carbon vessel effluent stream with a Photo-ionization Detector
(PID) Air vapors are then collected from the same ports in Tedlar bags for
laboratory analysis The samples were analyzed by GD Air Testing for BTEX
' and TPH-G by EPA Method TO-14
3.2 BTEX and TPH-G Analytical Results
Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and TPH-G were detected in the
influent air sample for each event The concentrations decreased significantly
downstream of the carbon filters or were not detected in the final effluent
sample "GAC-2" Sample GAC-2 was not analyzed for two of the events this
past quarter For sampling events performed on January 12'b and 19th of 2005,
the Tedlar bag samples deflated or popped during shipping
i3.3 Contaminant Removal and Air Emission Results
' The current total mass of TPH-G removed from the soil is approximately 173
pounds, which is approximately 51% of the initial estimated amount released
The current mean influent TPH-G rate was 5 04 lbs/day, while the average
' emission rate after treatment was 0 17 lbs/day Therefore, the VOC removal
efficiency was approximately 96 6%
' 3.4 Operation and Maintenance
There were no operational or maintenance issues during this period
However, after collecting the air samples, the system was turned off to collect
the groundwater samples, and upon collecting the groundwater samples on
8
Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
March 2005
Prepared for SARA LEE BAKERY GROUP}INC Prepared by Philip Services Corporation
Investigative and Quarterly Report list Quarterly Report 03_2005(final) September 23,2005
