1 Vft t ' ` Quarterly Summary Report First Quarter 1996 Former Unocal Service Station 0123 1034 Central Avenue ~ Tracy, California City/County ID# Unknown County San Joaquin BACKGROUND The site was reportedly an operating Unocal service station from approximately 1920 through 1962 Two underground storage tank (UST) complexes have existed at the site A cluster of three USTs located at the northern property boundary adjacent to 11th Street, were identified as "abandoned" on a general arrangement plan, and a second cluster of three tanks to the south were identified as active USTs The property was purchased by Bank of America and the service station was demolished in 1962 The site is currently an asphalt- paved parking lot owned by and servicing the Wells Fargo Bank located immediately to the south A limited subsurface investigation was conducted by LMS and is detailed in a March 29, 1994, Phase I Report, Addendum I As requested by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division, Unocal submitted a work plan dated, October 13, 1994, to perform a soil and groundwater investigation Nine soil borings and three groundwater monitoring wells were installed in May 1995 Exploratory test pitting was performed on the property in June and encountered two abandoned UST's at the northern property boundary, beneath the 11th Street sidewalk A report documenting the soil and groundwater investigation was submitted to Unocal and San Joaquin County in December 1995 RECENT QUARTER ACTIVITIES First quarter groundwater monitoring was performed in March 1996 Unocal initiated preparation of a closure plan to properly abandon the two USTs located beneath the 11th Street sidewalk NEXT QUARTER ACTIVITIES The second quarter 1996 groundwater monitoring report will be sumbitted A closure plan addressing the proper abandonment of the two USTs will be submitted on April 12, 1996 Unocal will close the USTs 3100971A11Q96QSR 1 January 18, 1996
