I <br />' November 22, 1995 <br /> Page 2 <br /> r) <br /> complexes identified on historical Unocal general arrangement plans, and (3) develop <br /> recommendations for additional investigative and remedial actions, as warranted <br />' SITE BACKGROUND <br /> Site Description and History <br /> The site is currently an asphalt-paved parking lot owned by the Wells Fargo Bank of North <br /> America (Wells Fargo) A site map depicting former and existing features is shown as <br />' Figure 2 The 0 26 acre site lies at an approximate elevation of 48 feet above mean sea <br /> Ievel The site is bordered by 1 lth Street to the north, Central Avenue to the west, a <br /> vacant Wells Fargo building to the south, and light commercial structures to the east <br /> The site was reportedly an operating Unocal service station from approximately 1921 <br /> through 1965 On September 30, 1965, the service station was closed, site <br />' equipment was moved to Tracy Marking Station, and the building was demolished <br /> Pertinent historical site information is presented below <br /> First Generation Underground Storage Tanks Based on general arrangement <br /> plans, two generations of USTs have existed at the site (Figure 2) The 1921�general <br /> arrangement plan showed that initial station construction included three 550 gallon <br /> USTs located beneath the sidewalk in the northwestern corner of the site (Figure 3) <br /> However, it is noted that the Unocal real estate files reviewed for Unocal's Phase I <br />' Environmental,Site Asse�ent Report(Environ, Inc , December 16, 1994) indicate <br /> that two 500-gallon and one 1,000-gallon USTs were installed in the northwest <br />' portion of the site during initial construction No other site information regarding <br /> UST capacities was available to PACIFIC These USTs are shown as"abandoned" <br /> on the 1950 general arrangement plan (Figure 4) <br /> Second Generation Underground Storage Tanks Three USTs of 2,600-gallon, <br /> 4,000-gallon, and 6,000-gallon capacities were installed in a common excavation <br />' west of the station building between 1938 and 1950 (Figure 4) An underground <br /> waste oil tank located south of the station building was also installed between 1938 <br /> and 1950 <br />' Aboveground Structures The 1950 general arrangement plan of the Unocal <br /> facility included a station building in the central portion of the site and a product <br />' island with two fuel dispensers north of the station building A 1956 "Site Map" <br /> shows that a product island may have been located west of the station building <br /> (Figure 5) This product island is not shown on either the 1921 or 1950 general <br /> arrangement plans <br /> _ 3100971A/REPORT2 <br /> F <br />
