The purpose of the subsurface investigation was to evaluate the presence of impacted soil, if
any, in the vicinity of a solids seperator at the subject site.
The scope of work included advancing one soil boring and collecting a soil sample, laboratory
analyses of the soil sample, and preparation of this summary report. The results are described in
detail in the following paragraphs.
SITE LOCATION
The site is located on the north side of East Channel Street to the east of North Hunter, as shown
on Figure 1. The location is in a commercial area. A San Joaquin County Special Education
facility currently occupies the site.
BACKGROUND
The site building housed Sutter Laundry from at least 1950 to approximately 1963. A solids
separator, also commonly called a sand-water separator, was installed along an outgoing sewer
line from the laundry facility in order to separate lint, particulate dirt, and undissolved detergents
from the outgoing water stream prior to drainage to the public sanitary sewer system. Three
open-topped sump tanks, up to three feet square and five feet deep in size, connected near their
tops via pipes, comprise the solids separator, which was not removed when the laundry closed in
the early 1960's.
wAenviromenta1\05257\5406\Sub Inv Rpt.doc 1
ENVIRONMENTAL, GEOTECHNICAL AND MATERIALS PROFESSIONALS
