TECHNICAL BULLETIN
FE TB018
Franklin Fueling Systems March 1, 2006
Introducing the MagVFC
FE Petro would like to introduce its next
generation of Variable Frequency Controllers: the
MagVFC. In conjunction with the release of the
MagVFC, we have also introduced the MagShell
4 HP Variable Speed Pump Motor Assembly - -—
(PMAMVS4), which is the first 4 HP pump motor
that fits into a 4"tank opening. 7-Segment
The MagVFC will also control the existing FE Displays
Petro 2 Horsepower Variable Speed Pump Motor
Assembly (PMAVS2). When the VS4 (4 HP i " Silence
Variable Speed Pump Motor) is being used the • Button
MagVFC must be powered by 208/230V three
phase input voltage. If the MagVFC is used with a
2 HP Variable Speed Motor, it will operate on Yellow Com.
single or three phase input power; however, two =_ -} LED
horsepower performance will be slightly improved • __ -
if three phase input power is used. Reset Button
The MagVFC continues to include the same
popular features as the IST-VFC with several
enhancements. Among these enhancements are:
• Fault Readout - When activated, the
MagVFC will display the last three fault
conditions encountered.
• Auto Restart from Underload (Dry Run)
Fault-When activated, the MagVFC will attempt to restart and automatically clear the fault on the next hook.
• Extended Run Protection -When activated, the MagVFC will shut the pump off if the pump runs for 60 minutes
with no change in pumping activity.
• Dual seven segment displays that indicate pump operating status and error codes and a yellow LED to indicate
communications activity.
• An audible alarm that indicates fault conditions, but also includes a silence button for acknowledging faults
without clearing them.
• Enhanced serial communication that allows intelligence sharing with INCON fuel management systems.
Compatibility of MagVFC and IST-VFC
• Like the IST-VFC,the MagVFC is only compatible with FE Petro model variable speed motors.
• Although the MagVFC can operate the VS4 and VS2 pump motors, the IST-VFC can only operate the VS2
models.
• Starting in February of 2006, the MagVFC's communication protocols enable the controller to communicate with
the IST-VFC using a compatibility mode switch setting. This allows both controllers to function in Master/Slave
and Master/Slave Alternating Circuit configurations in cases where an IST-VFC is being replaced by a MagVFC.
This feature is only available on MagVFCs with a software revision of 1.18 or higher.
• Starting in October of 2003, FE Petro's Variable Frequency Controller, the IST-VFC, was replaced by the
MagVFC.
• Please refer to the MagVFC Installation and Owner's Manual for further details regarding installation and
operation of the MagVFC.
• Reference materials are available on our website. Please refer to Service Bulletin 011 and Technical Bulletin
TB0106-1 for further details on compatibility and communication settings.
Please contact Technical Support if we may be of any assistance.
Franklin Fueling Systems•3760 Marsh Rd. •Madison WI 53718 USA
Tel: +1 608 838 8786•800 225 9787•Fax: +1 608 838 6433•www.franklinfueling.com
