Samples MCSW-1 through MCSW- <br /> 4 were collected from the four sidewalls at a depth of <br /> approximately 15 ft below grade, and six samples (MCSP-1A and <br /> B through MCSP»3A and B) were collected from the stockpiled <br /> soil• Samples were analyzed by WEST. <br /> Phase, IV--Sample MCSW-5 was collected from the west corner of the <br /> excavation, approximately 7 ft northwest of MCSW-1 at a depth <br /> of 22 ft. Samples collected in Phase IV were also analyzed by <br /> WEST. <br /> RESULTS <br /> Copies of all laboratory results were included in the Preliminary <br /> Investigation and Evaluation Report submitted by Geological Audit <br /> Services to Mr. Stephen Schneider on 14 August 1991. These results <br /> are summarized briefly here. <br /> . In sample GOT-1 minnow survival rate was 100%, indicating that the <br /> contaminated soil is non-hazardous. At the completion of Phase III, <br /> samples from the north, east, and south walls of the excavation <br /> were ND for all analytes except metals at the required detection <br /> limits. Metals values ranged from ND for cadmium to 82 ppm for <br /> chromium and 84 ppm for zinc. The sample from the west sidewall <br /> (MCSW-1) showed residual concentrations of 880 ppm TPH-d, 0. 06 ppm <br /> toluene, 0. 044 ppm ethylbenzene, and 4.35 ppm xylene, This <br /> .., contamination was removed during the Phase IV excavation, and _ <br /> sample MCSW-5 was ND for all analytes except metals. <br /> w At the request of Mr. Schneider, a wet-lead analysis was run on <br /> sample MCSW-2 , which had the highest total lead concentration (8. 4 <br /> Ppm) of any sidewall sample. The soluble concentration was 0. 11.0 <br /> ppm. <br /> Samples from the stockpiled soil had hydrocarbon contamination <br /> ranging from 820 ppm to 4500 ppm diesel and 610 ppm to 700 ppm <br /> W motor oil. One or more BTE&X compounds were present above detection <br /> limits in each sample. Other analytes were ND, except metals, which <br /> ranged up to 19 ppm for lead, 69 ppm for chromium, 73 ppm for zinc, <br /> and 40 ppm for nickel. <br /> REMEDIATION <br /> Following the successful excavation of the contaminated soil, <br /> Falcon Energy backfilled the excavation with clean Class 3 fill and <br /> poured a new concrete slab. On 16 September 1991, Evans Trucklrg <br /> hauled the contaminated soil to Forward Landfill for disposal. <br /> Copies of the bill of lading from Evans to Falcon Energy and <br /> Forward's contract and receipt form are attached. <br />
