Channel at. , Stockton, CA 95205
Dear Mr. Gotelli:
In accordance with a request by Falcon Energy, our company has
supervised the excavation and removal of contaminated soil from the
tank cavity of the former waste oil tank at the referenced address.
Excavation and sampling took place on 21 and 27 June, 16 July, and
2 August 1991. The Environmental Health Division (EHD) of Public
Health Services for San Joaquin County requires that the results of
this investigation be presented in a Preliminary Investigation and
Evaluation Report (PIER) .
BACXGROUM D
' An underground waste oil tank inside the garage was removed by
Thorpe Oil in January, 1989« Approximately 3.5 cu. yds. of soil
were removed from a cavity measuring approximately 6 ft long x 4 ft
,ss wide x 4 ft deep. A soil sample was collected from below the tank
at approximately 5--6 ft below grade and analyzed by Canonie
Environmental for total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons and
BTE&X. An unauthorized release of hydrocarbons was detected, with
a concentration of 85oo mg/kg (ppm) TPH6
Geological Audit Services submitted a workplan for reexcavation of the contaminated soil to San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Division on 2 'day 1991. SJEHD approved the workplan on 19 June
1991.
Depth to ground water is estimated to be a
 pproximately 50 feet (San
Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Map
showing lines of equal depth to water wells, Fall, 19s9) .
PROCEDURES
r
Using a backhoe, the tank cavity was reopened and enlarged on 21
June (Figure 2 -- Site plan) .
