I <br /> QUARTERLY REPORT <br /> October 1993 <br />' Mid-Cal Leasing <br /> 1649 East channel Street <br /> Stockton, California <br /> I <br /> 1. 0 INTRODUCTION <br />' In accordance with a request from Mr. Ed Gotelli of Mid-Cal Leasing <br /> (MCL) , Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has prepared this <br /> quarterly report of activities at 1649 East Channel Street in <br />' Stockton, California (the site) for the third quarter of 1993 . The <br /> project background, procedures, findings and conclusions are <br /> presented in the following sections. <br />' 2 . 0 BACKGROUND <br />' 2. 1 Land Use <br /> The site is located in a flat commercial/light industrial area of <br /> central Stockton (Figure 1) . The site is currently vacant (Figure <br /> 2) . A residential area is located northeast of the site. <br />' 2.2 Tank Removal <br /> It is our understanding that one 8, 000 gallon diesel tank and one <br /> 10, 000 gallon diesel tank were removed from the site on 7 October <br />' 1988 . Soil contamination was encountered during the tank removal. <br /> The contaminated soil was excavated from the former tank cavity. <br /> The excavated soil was characterized and disposed of at a properly <br />' licensed landfill facility. <br /> On 12 July 1992 , a 1, 000 gallon gasoline tank was removed from the <br /> site. According to a letter from the San Joaquin County Public <br />' Health Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) , soil <br /> samples collected from beneath the tank showed detectable levels of <br /> total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline at 6, 100 ppm) and <br />' volatile aromatics (benzene at 11. 5 ppm; toluene at 430 ppm; <br /> ethylbenzene at 380 ppm; and xylene at 1,870 ppm) . <br />' Excavation of the contaminated soil revealed that the site is <br /> underlain by unconsolidated clayey sand to silty sand in the upper <br /> 20 feet. <br />' 2 . 3 Depth to Groundwater <br /> Groundwater was estimated at 65 - 75 feet below surface grade by <br /> San Joaquin County Department of Public Works, Flood Control <br /> Section (1990) . This depth was confirmed during drilling in March <br /> 1993 , when groundwater was first encountered at a depth of between <br />' 1 <br />
