1
QUARTERLY REPORT
June 1993
Mid-Cal Leasing
1649 East Channel Street
Stockton, California
1. 0 INTRODUCTION
' In accordance with a request from Mr. Ed Gotelli of Mid-Cal Leasing
(MCL) , personnel from Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit)
have performed quarterly groundwater monitoring procedures at 1649
' East Channel Street in Stockton, California (the site) for the
second quarter of 1993 . The project background, procedures,
findings and conclusions are presented in the following sections.
2 . 0 BACKGROUND
2 . 1 Land Use
The site is located in a flat commercial/light industrial area of
central Stockton (Figure 1) . The site is currently vacant (Figure
2) . A residential area is located northeast of the site.
' 2 .2 Tank Removal
It is our understanding that one 8, 000 gallon diesel tank and one
10, 000 gallon diesel tank were removed from the site on 7 October
1988 . Soil contamination was encountered during the tank removal .
The contaminated soil was excavated from the former tank cavity.
The excavated soil was characterized and disposed of at a properly
licensed landfill facility.
On 12 July 1992 , a 1, 000 gallon gasoline tank was removed from the
site. According to a letter from the San Joaquin County Public
Health Services - Environmental Health Department (PHS/EHD) , soil
samples collected from beneath the tank showed detectable levels of
total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline at 6 , 100 ppm) and
volatile aromatics (benzene at 11 . 5 ppm; toluene at 430 ppm;
ethylbenzene at 380 ppm; and xylene at 1, 870 ppm) .
Excavation of the contaminated soil revealed that the site is
underlain by unconsolidated clayey sand to silty sand in the upper
20 feet.
2 . 3 Depth to Groundwater
Groundwater was estimated at 65 - 75 feet below surface grade by
San Joaquin County Department of Public Works, Flood Control
Section (1990) . This depth was confirmed during drilling in March
1993 , when groundwater was first encountered at a depth of between
1
