1
1
PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION AND EVALUATION REPORT
Mid-Cal Leasing
1649 E. Channel Street
' Stockton, Ca
' 1. 0 INTRODUCTION
In accordance with a request from Mr. Ed Gotelli of Mid-Cal Leasing
(MCL) , Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has installed (3)
groundwater monitoring wells on the property located at 1649 East
Channel Street in Stockton, California (the site) . This report
summarizes the installation procedures and presents the results of
soil and groundwater sampling. The location of the site is
illustrated in Figure 1. A plan of the site is illustrated in
Figure 2 .
2 .0 BACKGROUND
' 2.1 Land Use
The site is located in a flat commercial/light industrial area of
central Stockton (Figure 1) . The site is currently vacant (Figure
2) . A residential area is located northeast of the site.
' 2 .2 Tank Removal
It is our understanding that one 8, 000 gallon diesel tank and one
10, 000 gallon diesel tank were removed from the site on 7 October
' 1988 . Soil contamination was encountered during the tank removal.
The contaminated soil was excavated from the former tank cavity.
The excavated soil was characterized and disposed of at a properly
' licensed landfill facility.
On 12 July 1992 , a 1, 000 gallon gasoline tank was removed from the
site. According to a letter from the San Joaquin County Public
'I Health Services - Environmental Health Department (PHS/EHD) , soil
samples collected from beneath the tank showed detectable levels of
total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline at 6, 100 ppm) and
purgeable aromatics (benzene at 11. 5 ppm; toluene at 430 ppm;
ethylbenzene at 380 ppm; and xylene at 1,870 ppm) .
Excavation of the contaminated soil revealed that the site is
1 underlain by unconsolidated clayey sand to silty sand in the upper
20 feet.
' 2.3 Depth to Groundwater
Groundwater was estimated at 65 - 75 feet below surface grade by
San Joaquin County Department of Public Works, Flood Control
Section (1990) . This depth was confirmed during drilling in March
' 1
