PAGE 2
sampling events. Chevron and Shell are hearby directed to participate in the
coordinated sampling and monitoring events so that comparable data can be
obtained. An effort will be made to standardize the groundwater elevation data to a
known benchmark for more consistent data.
Also, beginning in the third quarter of 1995, selected wells will be sampled for
chlorinated hydrocarbons in addition to the gasoline constituents already being
monitored. The quarterly report for this period is due at PHS/EHD by Friday, October
20, 1995. The sampling for chlorinated hydrocarbons will also be conducted during
the first quarter sampling events. Selected wells will be sampled at 45 feet below
grade using a bladder pump prior to purging. This technique will allow for a more
consistent sampling throughout the area for more comparable results. Once this
sample is obtained, the wells can be purged and sampled as normal for the other
gasoline constituents. The Chevron and Shell stations located nearby on Charter
Way are hearby directed to begin sampling for chlorinated hydrocarbons to establish
baseline data. Subsequent sampling will be limited to perimeter wells unless
supporting laboratory results warrant a more detailed sampling of the wells. This
data will be used to evaluate the possible source of this contamination identified in
the groundwater in the area.
The next meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 30, 1995, at the
office of PHS/EHD. The additional data gathered by that time will be discussed so
that progressive decisions/actions can be made by all parties.
Donna Heran, R.E.H.S.
Director of Environmental Health
"CW---
Diane M.
