Emc®n - - <br /> 1433 North Market Boulevard • Sacramento California 95834-1943 • (916)928-3300• fax(916)928-3341 <br /> January 24, 1996 <br /> Project 0805-146 03 <br /> Mr Kyle Christie <br /> ARCO Products Company <br /> P O Box 612530 <br /> San Jose, California 95161 <br /> Re Fourth Quarter 1995 Status Report for ARCO Service Station No 2168, Located at <br /> 441 Charter ay, tockton, California <br /> Dear Mr Christie <br /> At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), EMCON is conducting an <br /> environmental investigation at the subject site (see Figure 1) We have prepared this status <br /> report on the work conducted during the fourth quarter 1995, which included measuring <br /> depths to groundwater, collecting groundwater samples from the wells for subjective and <br /> laboratory analyses, and calculating the groundwater gradient and direction of groundwater <br /> flow beneath the site. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Based on information supplied by ARCO, a waste-oil tank was removed on November 18, <br /> 1986 In July 1991, during the prelinmiary tank replacement assessment investigation, RESNA <br /> Industries (RESNA) of Rancho Cordova, California, observed the drilling of four soil borings <br /> (B-I through B-4) Residual gasoline hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples collected <br /> from the borings Boring locations are shown on Figure 2 The site was added to the San <br /> Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS), Environmental Health Division, pilot <br /> program on August 5, 1991. <br /> 1n April and May 1992, RESNA observetic dueling of eight additional soil borings (B-5 <br /> through B-12) and the installation o€ iree groundwater monitoring wens(MW-1 through <br /> MW-3) and three vapor extraction wails (VW-1 through VW-3). Well locations are <br /> shown on Figure 2 Gasoline hydrocarbons were detected in samples collected from the <br /> borings Total oil and grease (TOG), halogenated volatile organic compounds (HVOCs), <br /> and polychlorinated biphenyls were not detected in the samples analyzed, however, total <br /> extractable hydrocarbons were detected During drilling on April 28, 1992, approximately <br /> 5 gallons of gasoline were released from a fractured product line between the dispenser <br /> islands and the underground tank cavity.
