1 - <br /> Mr Kyle Christie Project 0805-146 03 <br /> August 2, 1995 <br /> Page 3 <br />' the information supplied by SJCPHS, a subsurface investigation was conducted at the <br /> Chevron Service Station, however, it is our understanding that the results of that <br /> investigation are not available at this time <br /> 1 <br /> SUPPLEMENTAL INVESTIGATION <br /> The purpose of this investigation was to further characterize soil directly beneath and <br /> adjacent to the USTs and to provide vapor extraction coverage in the vicinity of the <br />' USTs On May 12, 1995, an EMCON geologist observed Woodward Drilling of Rio <br /> Vista, California, drill one angle boring (B-13) and two vertical soil bonngs that were <br /> converted to vapor extraction wells (VW-8 and VW-9) The angle boring was drilled at <br /> an angle of 45 degrees to a vertical depth of 25 feet bgs The other bonngs were drilled to <br /> approximately 26 feet bgs The vapor extraction wells were constructed with 15 feet of <br /> 0 10 slotted screen During dulling activities, groundwater was not encountered in the <br />' boring or the wells EMCON field procedures are described in Attachment A <br /> The geologist collected soil samples from the borings at approximately 5-foot intervals for <br /> possible laboratory analyses and to characterize the geology beneath the site Samples <br /> were logged using visual and manual methods and classified according to the Unified Soil <br /> Classification System Sediments encountered are shown on the logs of exploratory <br /> borings presented in Attachment B Drill cuttings were stockpiled on site and covered with <br /> plastic sheeting <br />' On May 12, 1995, the geologist collected two soil samples from the stockpiled soil to be <br /> composited at the laboratory for analyses to evaluate disposal options At ARCO's <br /> request, drill cuttings were transported by Dillard Trucking of Byron, California, to <br /> Browning-Ferns Industries in Livermore, California,for disposal <br /> tLaboratory Methods and Results <br />' Select soil samples from the borings and the composite sample from the stockpile were <br /> analyzed for total purgeable hydrocarbons (equivalent to TPHG) with benzene, toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers (BTEX) distinction using Environmental Protection <br /> Agency (EPA) Methods 5030/DHS LUFT/8020 In addition, the soil sample collected <br />' from the stockpile was analyzed for total lead, using EPA Method 305017421, reactivity, <br /> corrosivity and ignitability Samples were analyzed at Columbia Analytical Services, Inc , <br /> (CAS) in San Jose,California(California Department of Health Services Hazardous Waste <br /> Testing Laboratory Certification 1426).
