The
purpose, of the assessment is to dellneate the extent and the concent, atlun of petrolaum-based
hydrocarbons In groundwater in the vicinity of the site. This work plan was written at the request of the San
Joaquin County,Public Health Services, E=nvironmental Health Division(SJCPHS-EHD)and compiles with
the guidelines set forth by the California Regional Water Cuality Control Board, Central Valley Region
(CRW000-CVR), and is authorized by Texaco Environmental Services.
2.0 BACKGROUND
In October 1988, hydrocarbon Impacted soli was observed at the site after two pump Islands were
removed in preparation for new construction. Soil beneath one pump Island was excavated to an
approximate depth of 15 feet below ground surface (BGS). Groundwater Technology responded to a
request by Texaco Refining and Marketing,Inc.,to perform an environmental assessment of the subsurface
soil and water conditions beneath the site.
Groundwater Technology Installed eleven groundwater monitoring wells to determine the extent of
the dissolved hydrocarbon plume In the groundwaier beneath the site. Analysis of water samples collected
from these wells during the last quarterly sampling round on August 9, 1991 indicated that all of the wells
contained detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons.
