r'
r
Mr. Dave Heinrich
August 15, 1989
202/150--4150
Page 2
` Drilled five soil borings into groundwater and in-
stalled five 4-inch diameter PVC monitoring wells to
ascertain the groundwater conditions beneath the site
(Figure 1 .
Soil samples collected during drilling operations were
field screened using a photaionization detector (PFD) ,
and selected samples were sent to a state-certified
laboratory for analyses of benzene; toluene, ethyl-
benzene and xylenes (BTEX) , and total petroleum hydro-
carbon-as-gasoline (TPH-G) concentrations.
` A field geologist continuously logged all soil borings
using the Unified Soil Classification system.
Subsequent to monitoring well installation, a well-
development truck was used to stabilize the wells by
removing fine sediments from the well and sand pack.
Well-head elevations and locations were professionally
surveyed for vertical and horizontal control.
` Water samples were obtained and under a Chain-of-
Custody manifest sent to a laboratory for analyses of
BTEX and TPH-G.
Monitoring wells were gauged monthly for depth to
water and thickness of free product.
` A 10 by 20--foot temporary compound was built, in which
a 530-gallon polyurethane tank was placed for the
storage of free product (Figure 2) . Free product was
hand bailed from monitoring well 1 (MW-1) and the
recovered product was stored in the storage tank. The
appropriate permits have been obtained from the
Stockton Fire Department, and a weekly bailing program
has been initiated for the site.
Preparation of correspondence including detailed maps
and additional proposed work steps.
soils encountered beneath the site consist predominantly of silt,
clay, and clay-silt: mixtures with randomly interbedded sand
14#GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY.INC.
