(ARCADIS BBL) on your
behalf for the above-referenced site. The response letter was submitted to address
comments concerning the above-referenced work plan dated July 12, 2007, presented by
EHD by letter dated July 26, 2007.
In the letter, ARCADIS BBL explains that the shallow wells in the four proposed
monitoring well clusters will be installed to monitor first encountered groundwater at
approximately 20 feet below ground surface (bgs) and will be screened at approximately
17 to 27 feet bgs to avoid the sand unit encountered at approximately 30 feet bgs. To
achieve this objective, ARCADIS BBL proposes to take depth-to-water measurements
from the three existing monitoring wells on the day the shallow wells are installed, and
reference soil lithology observed during the installation of the four proposed deep wells
to ensure the ten-foot screen interval for each shallow well is appropriately located and an
aquitard exists between the base of the screen and the sand layer at approximately 30 feet
bgs.
ARCADIS BBL will analyze groundwater samples collected from the eight new
monitoring wells for di-isopropyl ether (DIPE) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) during the
initial groundwater sampling event in addition to the analytes listed in the work plan. If
these two compounds are not detected in any groundwater samples, then DIPE and EDB
will be omitted from the analyte list for future sampling events for all monitoring wells as
directed by EHD by letter dated July 26, 2007.
EHD approves the above-referenced work plan as submitted for installing four proposed
monitoring well clusters. Please submit a well permit application and permit fee of$89
to EHD by October 31, 2007, and complete the fieldwork by November 30, 2007.
