The remediation system will consist of a
vacuum blower to extract soil vapors from the modified vapor extraction wells and an
abatement device to combust the extracted vapors The SVE system volatilizes high
concentrations of hydrocarbons present in the soil and in the capillary fringe zone, which
may provide a continuous source of hydrocarbon impact to the groundwater beneath the
site
BACKGROUND [.
The site is located at the est corner of the intersection of Charter Way and Lincoln
Street in Stockton, California (see Figure 1) The property is located in a commercial area
and is currently being used as a transmission repair shop Based on information provided by
the SJCPHS, two underground storage tanks (USTs) were present, and the site was
historically used as a retail service station, with gasoline dispensing activities ceasing
sometime in the 1950s It is unknown when one of the USTs and dispenser islands were-
removed However, based on information provided by SJCPHS, Thorpe Oil of Lodi,
California, removed the remaining UST in February 1996 Residual hydrocarbons were
detected beneath the UST However, total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG), as
SACN\PJ2\2613\261310002AB-9"baccus 3
