AL
c SMTHlic
ENVIRONMENTALTECHNOLOGIES CORPGRATION
P M 12: 2 7
April 9, 1997
97715
Mr. Harlin Knoll
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Street, 3rd Floor
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Summary Report for Phase II Environmental Site Investigation at Proposed Taft
Detention Basin, 3707 S. EI Dorado Street, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
Smith Technology Corporation, on behalf of the City of Stockton Department of Public Works
(DPW), has prepared this document to serve as a summary report for a site investigation at the above
referenced site (Figure 1). The DPW requested this investigation as part of a property transfer. The
DPW obtained a Right of Entry from the property owner, William Scott of Scott Properties (see
attachment) to conduct the investigation. The purpose of the site investigation is to evaluate
potential environmental concerns at the proposed location of the Taft storm basin. According to
the DPW, the site has historically been vacant. Thus, the most likely source of any potential
adverse soil impaction at the site is from on-site surface spills or dumping.
Advance Four Soil Borings, Soil Sample Collection and Analysis
On February 28, 1997, a Smith Technology geologist supervised the advancement of four soil
borings to depths of approximately 20 feet below ground surface (bgs) on-site. A site plan with
boring locations is shown on Figure 2. Fisch Environmental, under subcontract to V & W
Drilling, Inc. of Rio Vista, California (C57 license #720904) advanced the borings using truck
mounted Geoprobe® narrow diameter, direct push technology. All field activities were
conducted in accordance with Smith Technology's Workplan for Phase H Environmental Site
Investigation at Proposed Taft Detention Basin, 3707 S. El Dorado Street, Stockton, California,
submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) on February 19, 1997. Soil samples were described according to the Unified Soil
Classification System. Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample collection intervals are
presented on boring logs in Attachment I. Soil samples were collected at three feet bgs and at
five-foot intervals. Each soil sample was field screened with a Photoionization Detector (PID) for
w:\97715Meportsvtrtpt.doc
1260 Graphics Drive Modesto,CA 95351-150 (209)579-2221 Fax(209)579-2225
Engineering • Consulting • Remediation • Construction
