Ms Lori Duncan Project No 120221 03000000 <br /> September 27, 2006 <br /> Page 2 <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Transmission Shop (site) is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Charter <br /> ' Way and Lincoln Street in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1) The site is a <br /> multi-business property located in a commercial and residential neighborhood The-site contains <br /> The Transmission Shop (a transmission repair shop) and the former Rodger's Harbor Sea Food <br /> Market <br /> According to the San Joaqwn County Public Health Services (SJCPHS), two underground <br /> storage tanks (USTs) were previously at the site, which formerly housed a retail service station <br /> that dispensed gasoline until sometime in the 1950s it is unknown when the first UST and <br /> dispenser island were removed Thorpe Oil of Lodi, California, removed the second UST in <br /> February 1996 Residual hydrocarbons were reported in soil samples collected from beneath the <br /> UST, however, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), Total Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), and benzene concentrations were below laboratory detection <br /> limits <br /> Three other known former or current automobile service stations with UST facilities exist near <br /> the site, on the other three corners of the intersection of Lincoln Street and Charter Way (inset, <br /> Figure 2) UST-related petroleum hydrocarbons have been detected in groundwater beneath <br /> each of those facilities, according to reports held by the SJCPHS The general direction of <br /> 1 groundwater in the site vicinity is eastward (away from the Port of Stockton), according to <br /> SJCPHS <br /> GROUNDWATER MONITORING <br /> On August 21, 2006, a Shaw technician measured depth to groundwater from seven of the nine <br /> site wells, MW-1R, MW-3R, MW-4RS, MW4RD, VW-1D, VW-2D, and VW-4 Wells <br /> MW-2R and VW-313 were blocked and therefore not measured or sampled Samples were <br /> ' collected from the seven wells on August 21, 2006 Free product was not observed in the <br /> groundwater monitoring wells (Table 1 and Appendix A) Sampling and analysis procedures are <br /> presented in Appendix B <br /> ' The groundwater samples were shipped to California Laboratory Services (CA DOHS ELAP <br /> #1233) in Rancho Cordova, California, and analyzed for TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, <br /> and xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) using U S Environmental Protection <br /> Agency (USEPA) Methods 8015M (TPHg) and 8260B (BTEX and MTBE) <br /> The laboratory analyses indicate that TPHg was present in the groundwater samples from wells <br /> MW-4RS, MW-4R), VW-11), and VW-21) at concentrations ranging from 360 micrograms per <br /> liter (pg/L) to 39,000 µg/L BTEX concentrations were reported in samples from the same <br /> wells, benzene ranged from 99 µg/L to 7,200 Ag/L, toluene ranged from 14 [tg/L to 1,300 pg/L, <br /> ' N tiTechP&120221 Don RodgerslRpts106-QMQ06DRAFT doc SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL,INC <br />
