1.0 Background <br /> 1 Shaw Environmental, Inc (Shaw) has prepared this report on behalf of Don Rodgers (Rodgers) <br /> to document soil and groundwater assessment performed at 515 W Charter Way, Stockton, <br /> California (the site) The work was conducted to evaluate the concentrations and lateral and <br /> vertical extent of residual leaked hydrocarbon and evaluate remediation of the hydrocarbons <br /> within the saturated zone <br /> 1.1 Site Description <br />' The site is located in a mixed commercial and residential area within the City of Stockton, <br /> California It is on the northwest corner of the intersection of Lincoln Way and West Charter <br /> Way There are former or current retail service stations at each corner of the intersection <br /> Residual and dissolved hydrocarbons have been detected beneath each of those facilities and <br /> several or all have, are or will be undergoing remediation <br /> The subject property consists of two commercial buildings that in aggregate are approximately <br /> 4,310 square feet, and about 2,650 square feet of paved parking area There are two active <br /> businesses on the property a transmission repair shop and a drapery delivery business <br /> 1.2 Salient Environmental History <br /> The site was used as a retail service station and gasoline dispensing activities ceasing sometime <br /> in the 1950s according to information provided by the San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services (SJCPHS) It is believed that two or three underground storage tanks (USTs) were <br /> 1 present at the site Sanborn Maps° for the property Shaw an UST present in 1950, but not <br /> present in 1917 or 1972 A copy of the Sanborn Map report is shown in Appendix A Shaw and <br /> the SJCPHS have records indicating that Thorpe Oil of Lodi, California, removed one UST in <br /> February 1996 It is unknown when the other USTs and dispenser islands were removed There <br /> is little information available about the findings, extent of removal, or vadose zone residue when <br /> the UST systems were removed, residual hydrocarbons were reported in soil samples <br /> Environmental investigation of the site began when an UST was removed in 1996 Site <br /> characterization occurred during the next several years It was determined that there was both <br /> vadose zone and groundwater impact by residual hydrocarbons The impact was determined to <br /> extend to depths of at least 60 feet below grade surface (bgs), or approximately 40 feet beneath <br /> the water table Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) was conducted from February 2000 until <br /> October 2004 and has reduced the concentrations and mass of gasoline in the unsaturated zone <br /> Groundwater monitoring and sampling continues to be performed on a quarterly basis <br /> SacDP N 1T0Cffti12022f Don A0dgMV0fs0R SPnng2006 SIA{August)dos <br /> 82306 1-1 <br />
