Dear Ms.Turkatte:
Delta Environmental Consu;tants, Inc., has I-en authorized by Shell Oil Company to conduct an
investigation of soil and ground water conditions at a Shell service station located at 620 West Charter
Way, Stockton, California, (Figures 1 and 2). The investigation is intended to characterize the
distribution of petroleum constituents in soi!and ground water beneath and adjacent to the:ite. This
letter report summarizes site activities from May I through August 1, 1991,including quarterly, round
water sampling and installation of an off-site grrund water monitoring well.
Quarterly ground water sattpli:,g'conducted on July 23, 1991,included measurement of water levels in
each of the nine existing monitoring wells, checking for the presence of free product or product sheen,
and collection of ground water samples for chemical analyis. Installation of monitoringww"W ijrT,.
intended to help assess the down3radient extent of petroleum hydrocarbon constituents in ground water,
was performed on July 25, 1991. Water levels n the monitoring wells were measured again, and a
ground water sample was collected from monitoring well MW-SO on August 1, 1991. All field activities
were performers in accorQanv-.whh the procedures described in Enclosure A-
Wnt.r Level Depth. Flow Direcllon,and li,(Injillir Crudlent
Ground water level measurements recorded on July 23 and August 1,1991,arc compiled in Table 1,with
previous ground water level mcasur.ments. On August 1, 1991,depth to ground water in the monitoring
wells ranged from 30,27(IviW-1)to 37.75(MW-10)feet below grade. Historic ground water elevations
in monitoring wells MW-1, MW-5, MW-6, MW-8,and MW-9, are graphically illustrated in Figure 3.
The ground water level measurements recorded on August 1, 1991, indicate an inferred direction of
ground water flow to the northeast with an average gradient of approximately 0,02-foot per foot. A
water table contour map prepared from the August 1, 1991,data is included as Figure 4.
