FUGRO WEST, INC <br /> 1050 Melody Lane,Suite 160 <br /> `�{/� Ef Roseville California 95678 <br /> May 26, 1995 <br /> Project No 9347-1246 FNS Tel (916)782-2110 <br /> 7 FAX (916)786-7830 <br /> Linda Turkette FNiLj�� S <br /> En ironmuHealth Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> 445 N San Joaquin Street <br /> Post Office Box 338 <br /> Stockton, California 95201-0388 <br /> Subject Remediation Summary and Proposal For Final Corrective Action <br /> Shell Service Station (WIC No. 204-7524-4305) <br /> 620 West Charter Way <br /> Stockton, California J )� <br /> Dear Ms Turkette <br /> Introductory Summary <br /> Fugro West, Inc , (Fugro), on behalf of Shell Oil Products Company (Shell), is providing <br /> this letter to summarize soil and ground water remediation conducted at the subject site <br /> (Figures I and 2) and propose a final phase of corrective action It is the opinion of Fugro and <br /> Shell that vapor extraction has reached both the technical and resource limits of feasibility, and <br /> that the ThermTech oxidizer could be more effectively utilized at another site Based on this <br /> information, Fugro requests the concurrence of San Joaquin County Public Health Services to <br /> discontinue soil vapor extraction at the site <br /> Shell has been operating the ThermTech (model VAC 25) thermal/catalytic oxidizer to <br /> extract vapors from soil and ground water at the site since September 17, 1992 Remediation <br /> conducted to date can be summarized as follows <br /> • Sources of hydrocarbons in ground water have been removed by excavation of <br /> soil, direct recovery of separate-phase hydrocarbons, and vapor extraction As of <br /> the date of this correspondence, the soil vapor extraction (SVE) system has <br /> recovered a total of 17,449 pounds (or 2,908 gallons) of petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> • The extraction rate has dropped to less than one-half of 1% of the startup <br /> extraction rate, with a corresponding decrease in the efficiency of the vapor <br /> extraction system Nearly 100% of the fuel currently consumed by the oxidizer <br /> is supplemental gas supplied by PG&E <br /> • The analytical data indicates the system has removed all of the hydrocarbons that <br /> can be practically remediated by vapor extraction <br /> 9347 1246 LL 1 A member of the Fugro group of companies with offices throughout the world <br /> 1 <br />
