Or <br /> November 24, 1993 <br /> Linda Turkette <br /> San Joaquin County, Public Health Services <br /> P O Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br /> Subject System Operation Summary <br /> Soil Vapor Extraction and Emission Control System <br /> Shell Service Station <br /> 620 West Charter Way, Stockton, California <br /> Air Permit to Operate No 91-471 <br /> Dear Ms Turkette <br /> On behalf of Shell Oil Company, Concord, California, Aegis Environmental, Inc (Aegis), <br /> is operating a soil vapor extraction system with thermal/catalytic oxidizer emissions <br /> control (system) at the subject site (Figure 1) <br /> This letter provides a brief summary of system description, operation <br /> (September 17, 1992 -September 1 , 1993), sampling/monitoring results, and a discussion <br /> that includes that the limits of vapor extraction may be nearing soon <br /> Currently, the system is in a "pulsing " mode of operation System pulsing commenced <br /> on September 1, 1993 Pulsing consists of intermittent operation (on/off cycles) to <br /> maximize hydrocarbon recovery due to low influent concentrations to the oxidizer <br /> System Description <br /> The system consists of seven vapor extraction wells manifolded to a soil vapor extraction <br /> and thermal/catalytic oxidizer emission control unit (Model VAC 25 ) manufactured by <br /> Thermtech Inc The oxidizer is natural gas-fired with an airflow capacity of 250 standard <br /> cubic feet per minute (scfm) Vapors extracted from combination ground water <br /> monitoring/vapor recovery wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-5, MW-7, MW-8, and MW-9 <br /> are treated by the thermal/catalytic oxidizer prior to discharge to the atmosphere <br /> (Figure 2) System operation and monitoring is performed consistent with the air permit <br /> issued by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (APCD) <br /> 91 246J LTR <br />
