25 September 2000
AGE-NC Project No 97-0326
placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to Alpha Analytical
Laboratories, Inc (Alpha Analytical), a State of California Department of Health Services (DHS)-
certified analytical laboratory Each sample was analyzed for
' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
method GCFID 5030,
I • Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons- benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX)
with methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B, and
• Oxygenated compounds - di-isopropyl ether (RIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE),
MTBE, tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA) in accordance with
' EPA Method 8260B
' 3.0. FINDINGS
• From the field data,AGE was able to infer the ground water flow direction and gradient Laboratory
analysis of three ground water samples detected petroleum hydrocarbons and volatile aromatics all
three samples, oxygenated fuel additives were found in two of the samples (MW I and MW3)
3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
Ground water was measured at a depth of approximately 31 feet below the tops of the well casings
Iduring the March 2000 monitoring event, within the screened interval of MW2 and MW3, but
approximately 5 feet above the screened interval to MWI The elevation of ground water in each
well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground water from the well head elevations Ground
water elevations ranged from 15 84 to 15 88 feet below mean sea level (MSL) Ground water data
is summarized on Table 1
' Ground water elevation contours based on the data for the March 2000 monitoring event are
illustrated on Figure 3 The ground water flow direction was south-southeast with a gradient of
' 0 0025 ft/ft
' 3 2 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in samples collected from MW1,MW2 and MW3 at concentrations of 89,000
' micrograms per liter (µg/1), 76,000 µg/1 and 240,000 µg/l, respectively Benzene was detected in
• samples from MW1,MW2 and MW3 at concentrations of 3,700 µg/l, 13,000 µg/1 and 23,000 µg/1,
respectively Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected at concentrations as high as 23,000
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
I
