Ibenzene in wells BM-3 BM--7 and BM--6 which are on the west side
of the site. We believe this contamination is comming from the
ARCO station located to the west of our site.
Wells BM--2 , 3 , 6 , 10 and 11 had no contamination at all and their
position defines the zero line along the west and north sides of
the site. Well 5 has a small amount of contamination at 15
feet but the fact that the zones below 15 feet are clean to the
40 foot level indicate the northern migration of fuel in the
unsaturated zone was very limited. Therefore, we assess
the northern limit of the contamination is dust beyond BM-5.
Charter Way is located to the south of the site. We had planned
to drill one well on the south side of the street to help us
define the unsaturated and saturated plume. However, the south
Iside of Charter Way contains buried communications lines in the
parking lane and under the sidewalk. These buried cables
prohibit the drilling on the south side of Charter Way. Caltrans
will not allow drilling in the travel lanes of the street.
' Therefore, we are unable to locate a drilling site suitable to
define the soil and water.
A Preliminary Groundwater Assessment dated November 6, 1992 was
prepared by Earth Systems Environmental , Inc. for a gas station
located on the southeast corner of Charter Way and Grant Street,
Assessor Parcel Number 167-181--01 . This site is diagonally
' across the intersection of Charter Way and Grant Street. This
report does not indicate any significant contamination in their
' well MW-3 nor in their boring TH-7 and TH-3 , the two closest
borings to our site. From this data we can assume the
unsaturated contamination does not extend across Charter Way from
' this site.
Groundwater
' Page 6
