I
Well BM-8 this quarter had no contamination, since the well was drilled in August 1993
' Figure 3 shows the approximate contour pattern for the TPH plume and again well BM-4
is free of contamination, however, the wells west (upgradient) of this well are
contaminated This again indicates the groundwater on the west side of our site is
' contaminated from sites west of our site
MtBE was detected in BM-1, BM-2, BM-3, BM-4 and BM-5 BM-1 is located in the old
tank pit and the level of MtBE contamination was taken from the EPA 602 water analyses
where as all of the other wells were taken from EPA 8260B We actually had the water
from BM-1 tested with EPA 82606, however, the results were reported at fess that 250
ug/L We believe this MtBE is related to gasoline coming from the ARCO station
Dissolved oxygen levels were recorded this quarter at this site The levels were
measured with a calibrated YSI model 51 B meter by placing the sensor 5 feet below the
surface of the water table after the bailing of the wells The measured levels are shown
on Table 3A The readings of dissolved oxygen are between 1 8 at well BM-1 and 5 1 at
well SM-2 The levels of the other wells are around 3 mg/L Aerobic activity has
occurred at this site and is still occurring around the old tank pit The fact that all of the
water east of this site is now free of contamination is evidence that aerobic activity has
and is taking place
VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
• The site has been under remediation since July 1997 A total of 42,549 pounds of
gasoline has been removed since the beginning of this project
The vapor extraction was shut down on February 5, 1999 because no BTEX chemical was
being recovered This quarter we drilled vapor extraction well VW-7 and found soil
contamination in this well The air pollution board requested that we apply for a new
operating permit We have applied and are waiting for this boards approval We expect
to restart the vapor extraction system along with air sparging in the old tank pit this
quarter
Conclusions
We will continue to monitor this site The next monitoring event will take place in January
2000
Attached are two Hazardous Waste Manifests showing that the purged water and one
Hazardous Waste Manifest showing the drill cuttings were disposed of properly
Yours truly,
John Cussen
.
