i
i Geolo icaf7ecknics Inc. Page 2
Morita
Project No.: 724.2
August 10,2000
I
Copies of the work plan and addendum's to the Work Plan, SJC PHS/EHD correspondence,
f groundwater monitoring reports, drilling bids and an itemized budget spreadsheet of costs for
performing this work are enclosed for your review.
Proposed Direction of Project
The work approved by the County is summarized below:
1. Drill and install one discretely screened deep well, MW-104, in the vicinity of the former
dispenser island.
2. Drill and install a shallow/deep well pair, MW-6 and MW; 106, down gradient of well MW-2.
i 3. Drill and install a shallow/deep well pair, MW-7 and MVV-107, down gradient of the former
UST excavation.
4. Analyze four soil samples from each borehole for the following:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020/602.
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas)by EPA method 5030/8015(m).
• Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE)by EPA method'8020/602.
• MTBE in soil samples will be confirmed by utilizing by EPA method 8260.
5. Develop the five new monitoring wells. j
6. Place the five new wells on a quarterly monitoring schedule with the other five monitoring
wells for a period of one year. Include two monitoring events for testing water samples for
i the oxygenated fuel compounds (MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TiAME & TBA, plus 1,2-DCA, EDB,
Methanol & Ethanol) by EPA method 8260 and dissolved oxygen and oxidation-reduction
potential.
7. Prepare a site characterization report after well installation and initial monitoring.
8. Prepare three groundwater monitoring reports.
Listed below is a proposed schedule for implementing this prof ject.
Proposed Bidding of Project
To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc. requested a bid from
V&W Drilling to drill and install five groundwater monitoring wells (three deep and two
shallow). GTI has found V&W to be very cost effective for three primary reasons: i
I • reasonable charge rate
} • fast drilling equipment
! • well trained crew
G
I
These costs have been included in the attached opinion of cost spreadsheet prepared giving
estimated costs for performing the work approved by SJC,! PHS/EHD. The opinion of cost
spreadsheet shows itemized cost for the tasks proposed. In an"attempt to make this Pre-Approval
flow smoothly, GTI has used the same unit costs for this work that has previously been approved
by the USTCFP for other projects.
f
Geological Technics Inc. accepts field support services and lab invoices and adds a 15%
overhead fee. GTI then pays these charges.
i
{
I
t
If.
