Page 5
Additional Site Characterization Work Plan
Project No.724.2
+ March 8 2005
{ t 3.4 Water Sampling
Y Water sample depths will be targeted to complete a site conceptual.model illustrating the
L lateral and vertical extent of the groundwater plume at the site. A hydropunch type
sampler will be used on the end of the .drill rods to obtain samples at depths to be
determined in the field. The sampler is attached to the end of the drill rods and then
advanced to the targeted depth. When the targeted depth is achieved, the rods are
retracted 12 — 18 inches to allow a screened portion of the rods to be exposed and water
to enter. A water sample will then be obtained from inside the rod column by lowering a
small diameter bailer into the rods. Water samples will then be transferred from the
bailer to the VOA container for transport to the laboratory. Care will be taken to
minimize sample agitation from the initial filling of the bailer to the transfer of the
sample to the VOA vial. A description and schematic of the process is included in
Appendix B. }
3.5 Water Sample Analyses
r
A maximum of three groundwater samples from each borehole will be submitted to a state
certified laboratory for the analysis of:
 I
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX)by EPA method 602/5030 }
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G)'by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
• Oxygenated fuel compounds (5) by EPA method 8260B
 L
The detection limits for these compounds are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be,
completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
Re
orting Limits: BTEX TPH-G 4 Oxygenates* TBA (oxygenate)
Water ( /L) 0.5-0.1 50 0.5 5.0
MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, & TAME
4.0 SCHEDULE & REPORTING
Geological Technics Inc. anticipates beginning fieldwork no later than 30 days after work
plan approval; cost pre-approval from the USTCFP and issuance of the
j encroachment/monitoring well permits. -
r
The information gathered during this phase of work (CPT installation) will be presented in k
the updated Site Conceptual Model (SCM).
t `
