1
Morita Brothers Service Station 22 November 5, 1992
g
a
' 6.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
The preliminary soil characterization study performed by ESE assessed the limits of
' gasoline impacted soil beneath the location of the former underground gasoline
storage tank and northern dispenser island ESE has recommended that remedial
' measures were warranted to reduce the concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons in
the upper 20 feet of soil to below the RWQCB recommended guidelines
' The current groundwater assessment has detected gasoline hydrocarbons in the
' groundwater beneath the subject site However, several factors indicate that the
source of the gasoline hydrocarbons is not from the release of fuels at Morita
Brothers, but is the result of an off site source These include the presence of a
' confining zone above the groundwater, 30 feet of vertical separation between the
deepest known impacted soil at the site and groundwater, the intervening barrier to
vertical migration consisting of clays and silts, the highest concentrations of
gasoline hydrocarbons in the northwest corner of the property, and the Morita
Brothers site positioned laterally down gradient of the other service station
' ESE recommends continued monitoring of the wells on the property to determine
whether there is a conststent pattern of groundwater concentrations indicating an
off site source
ESE recommends remediation of the impacted soil in the form of excavation and
' surface bioremediation This should alleviate any possible source of hydrocarbons at
the Morita Brothers site which may migrate toward groundwater
' 7.0 CLOSURE
' This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Mr Frank Morita
representing the Morita Brothers Gasoline Service Station as it pertains to the subject
property located at 814 East Charter Way in Stockton, California The findings and
' conclusions rendered in this report are opinions based on laboratory testing of
groundwater samples collected during this project This report sloes not reflect
subsurface variations which may exist between sampling points These variations
EB-8101-3 9210-EO55 RPT
r _
