' Site Background Information Vanco Truck & Auto Plaza
Page 2 of 6
1
disposal During the excavation, soil samples were collected by an AGE representative from the floor
' of the piping excavation, the fuel dispenser excavation, and the soil stockpiles for analysis The
laboratory analysis reported total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel(TPH-g
and TPH-d,respectively),benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,and xylenes(BTEX),and the fuel additive
' methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) from the areas of the former piping and fuel dispensers
' PREVIOUS SITE ASSESSMENTS
On 30 and 31 October 2003, seven soil probe borings (B1 though B7) were advanced at the site A
total of 19 soil samples from the seven soil borings were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon
products TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in soil samples collected from boring B3 at 10 feet bsg
' (B3-10)and 15 feet bsg(B3-15) and boring B7 at 30 feet bsg (B7-30), at maximum concentrations
in sample B3-15 of 47 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg)TPH-g and 110 mg/kg TPH-d Laboratory
chromatograms show that the TPH-g concentrations were detected within the diesel-range spectrum,
' indicating that the TPH-g may actually be degraded diesel fuel MTBE and xylenes were detected
in soil sample B3-15 at concentrations of 0 045 mg/kg and 0 10 mg/kg, respectively
Grab ground water samples collected from six of the seven soil borings were analyzed for petroleum
hydrocarbon products TPH-g and TPH-d were detected in ground water samples collected from
borings B2 and B4,at maximum concentrations in boring B4 of 190,000 micrograms per liter(gg/l)
' TPH-g and 2,200,000 lig/1 TPH-d Laboratory chromatograms show that the TPH-g concentrations
were detected within the diesel-range spectrum, indicating that the TPH-g may actually be degraded
diesel fuel MTBE was detected in ground water samples collected from boring B5 at a maximum
concentration of 15 µg/1 No other target analytes were detected at or above laboratory detection
limits in any other of the samples analyzed
' On 26 and 27 July 2004, three pilot soil borings were advanced to 35 feet bsg at the site and
completed as ground water monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-3 No constituents of concern were
detected at or above laboratory detection limits in the soil samples analyzed
On 05 August 2004, one cone penetration test (CPT) boring (CPT-1) paired with a hydropunch
boring was advanced to 100 feet bsg on-site, lithologic data was collected from the initial boring
utilizing CPT technology, and soil and grab ground water samples from selected depths were
collected from an immediately adjacent twin boring Two soil samples were collected from CPT-1
' In the soil sample collected at 60 feet bsg(CPT I-60), TPH-g, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes were
detected at concentrations of 2 1 mg/kg, 0 008 mg/kg and 0 017 mg/kg, respectively In the soil
sample collected at 90 feet bsg (CPTI-90), TPH-g, TPH-d, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes were
' detected at concentrations of 6 3 mg/kg, 110 mg/kg, 0 017 mg/kg, and 0 037 mg/kg, respectively
A total of three grab ground water samples were collected from soil boring CPT-1 No constituents
of concern were detected at or above laboratory detection limits in the grab ground water samples
r
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
r
