i
Mike Infurna [EH]
E -
From : Mike Infurna [EH]
Sent: Friday, April 02 , 2010 9 : 18 AM
To: 'Art Deicke'
Cc: rmarty@advgeoenv.com; wlittle@advgeoenv.com
Subject: RE: Nomellini
ty.
E
From : Art Deicke [mailto :adeicke@advgeoenv.com]
Sent: Friday, April 02, 2010 7 : 50 AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Cc: rmarty@advgeoenv.cwm; wlittle@advgeoenv.com
Subject: Nomellini
Mike ,
We will publish a report describing the installation , start-up and initial operation of the DPE
system at Nomellini next week. It will cover the period from June 2009 to January 2010.
This report will recommend making modifications to well EW-1 , which during DPE operations,
contributes significant sediment to the system severely degrading performance. Well EW- 1 was
taken off-line on 09 February. The system now operates continuously without shutting down
every other day or so. However, flip side is that EW- 1 and its surrounding area is highly
impacted .
As you are aware, we are using three wells (AW-1 , VW- 1 and EW-1 ) that were not specifically
designed for DPE . However, as of 19 January 2010, the system had operated over 1 ,000 hours
and a calculated mass of 0 .8 lbs of benzene and 11 lbs of TPH-g had been removed from the
dissolved phase of the extraction and 35 lbs benzene and 942 lbs of TPH-g from the vapor
phase. These numbers are preliminary and need to be PG-reviewed , but show the effectiveness
of this remedy.
Additionally, we will publish the semi-annual report next week, which covered the period from
July to December with a sampling event of 12 October 2009 (preceded start-up).
I will immediately draft the quarterly remediation report upon publication of the installation report.
The quarterly remediation report will cover the period of February and March 2010, and then
every 3 months thereafter. We will stay caught up on reporting.
Upon your review of the installation report, please evaluate our recommendation to modify EW- 1
as its importance to the remediation cannot be understated . Additionally, specifically designed
DPE wells may need to be installed to address other areas of the impacted soil and ground
water.
Thank you ,
Art
5/3/2010
