VAPOR WELL INSTALLATION ' <br /> 41 DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> On 14 July 1995, one dual-purpose sod vapor extraction/ground water extraction well (EW-1) and <br /> two soil vapor extraction wells (VW-1 & VW-2) were installed at the site using a DH-55 drill ng <br /> The drill ng and two man crew were supplied by Sods Exploration Services, Inc (SES) of Benicia <br /> Boring EW-1 was installed approximately 25 feet west of MW-1, boring VW-1 was installed <br /> approximately 40 feet west of MW-1, VW-2 was installed approximately 20 feet north of MW-1 <br /> IBoring Locations are shown on Figure 2 <br /> T Boring EW-1 was advanced to a total depth of 40 feet (bsg) Bonngs VW-1 and VW-2'were <br /> advanced to depths of 30 feet bsg Sod cuttings were stockpiled on-site on plastic sheeting pending <br /> analytical results <br /> For all three bonngs,' discrete soil samples were collected ahead of the drill bit at 5-foot intervals, <br /> beginning at a depth of 10 feet bsg, using a split-tube sampler loaded with pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6- <br /> inch brass sleeves The sampling egwpment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water <br /> M prior to each sampling run to avoid cross contamination For each sample, both ends of the lead <br /> sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape <br /> Sam les were stored on ice and transported under chain-of-custody to Pan-Ag for analysis Selected <br /> Samples <br /> soil samples were analyzed for TPH(as gasoline and diesel)and BTE&X in accordance with methods <br /> ` 5030/8015m, and 8020, respectively _ <br /> I I <br /> 4 2 LOGGING <br /> Soil was extruded from the second brass sleeve and screened for the presence of organic vapors using <br /> IF a photo-ionization detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene), <br /> and the readings were recorded on the boring logs The sod was then described in accordance with <br /> the Umfied Soil Classification System(see Boring Logs, Appendix C) <br /> 1 <br /> 4 3 BORING COMPLETION <br /> Boring EW-1 was completed as a vapor extraction/ground water extraction well using 4-inch <br />' diameter, 0 020-inch slotted PVC casing from 20 feet to 40 feet bsg Blank PVC casing was installed <br /> from surface grade to a depth of 20 feet bsg Bonngs VW-1 and VW-2 were completed as vapor <br /> Sextraction wells using 2-inch diameter, 0 020 slotted PVC casing from depths of 15 feet to 30 feet <br /> I <br /> S <br />
